Well, I think they might be getting around it because it’s not all “rent.” Some of it is parking or whatever else. When it all comes down to it, it’s still one check and it’s still “rent” to me, but yeah. $200 was the most I’d heard and that was from friends in an apartment almost identical to ours. Our increase with parking or whatever, would have been $150. (Would have been more for a 1 year lease though, that was if we were willing to sign a 10 month lease!)
I’ve heard as little as $60 from other people.
The funny thing is they tried to act like they aren’t running off everyone, but every single person I know there has moved, is moving now or plans to move when their lease is up because of the management and rent increases. My mother in law was in my building with me for about 15 minutes the other day and we ran into 3 people (who live in 3 different apartments) who I introduced her to, who were all in process of moving!
When I asked what the extra money would be spent on, she made some vague statement about how they were doing a lot for the building to beautify it etc. (What that meant to me was “omg but did you see?? We’ve put thousands of dollars into full color signage that takes up the whole side of the building telling people to move in here!”)
